Truckers Christian Chapel Ministry |
The Truck Stop Ministry in our area was started by Bro. Bill Stephens. The ministry was established to help those who work on the road and are away from loved ones and home churches. It was to be used to help them be able to not only hear the word, but to help them through tough times, lonely nights, and spiritual lows, as well as uplift them on regular church service nights and any night during the week when they are stopped at a service sight. There is someone at nearly every TA truck stop across the country every night of the week. The closest truck stop to our area is the Florence TA on US 18 near the Florence Mall. Terry Welch says, "I enjoy participating in the truck stop ministry. It is a blessing for me to be able to meet with those who are in need of a Christian friend while on the road, as well as those who just stop in to find out what the "semi with the cross on the top" is all about. I am able to meet people from all over the country. I have the opportunity to witness to many wondering souls and pray with other Christians. It is my hope that I will be there when someone is in need of someone to lead them to the Lord, or just to pray with them and be an encouragement to someone who is not where they should be with the Lord as a Christian trucker traveling the road. It is often that these men, and sometimes women, get out of the will of the Lord due to their traveling so much and away from their family, friends and churches. Sometimes I have to show some tough love and tell them loneliness is no excuse to give into sin. Many truckers have stated that they "went to the cross" for help. They are referring to the cross on top of the semi, converted to a chapel at the TA truck stops. It is a warm, cozy place to come into and pray, read their Bible or listen to Christian music, while stopped for the night. On Sunday mornings, a service is held inside the lounge area of the truck stop. The minister of the day will comb the area around the parking lot and announce that a service is about to begin. Many congregate to be in a church service on Sunday morning. It is a wonder to behold. Many souls have come to know the Lord through the years. On average, there are about 30 souls a year won to the Lord at the truck stop. I am honored to be a part of this ministry."
